It’s election time at Co-op Market, and we have three seats open for dedicated individuals like you! If you've seen board members in the store handing out applications and answering questions, here are some FAQs about becoming a Board Member:
Why should I run for the Board? Becoming a board member is a fantastic way to serve your community, support our Co-op's mission, and advocate for change from within. Plus, it offers invaluable professional and personal growth opportunities. All Owners in good standing are encouraged to apply!
What does the Board really do? The Board sets the Co-op's direction, develops strategies, and supervises our General Manager through Policy Governance. From re-evaluating metrics to community outreach events like the upcoming Seedling Swap, the Board plays a vital role in promoting our values.
Are you a good candidate? We're looking for individuals with diverse lived experiences who share a commitment to our mission, vision, and values. Skills like effective communication, decision-making, and a passion for health and sustainability are highly valued.
How much time will you commit? Expect monthly two-hour meetings, committee participation as needed, and about six to eight hours of prep work. Plus, there's an annual weekend workshop for board development and other opportunities based on your interests.
