About Us

Co-op Market Grocery & Deli is a full service, natural foods cooperative grocery store that serves the Fairbanks Community and the Interior. Co-op Market is Alaska's first retail food cooperative and has more than 4800 invested Owners and growing.

For $200, a person or household can become an invested Owner and is eligible to vote in annual elections, run for a seat on the board of directors, receive special sale prices on goods. Co-op Market is open to all shoppers.

History

History circa 2013, This year of 2023 marks the 10th year of this particular Co-op.

In comparison to others we are just a mere preteen still learning what works and what does not.

What is a Co-op?

A farm, business, or other organization that is owned and run jointly by its members, who share the profits or benefits.

10 Cooperative Values: 

Self-Help- the use of one's own efforts and resources to achieve things without relying on others.

Self-Responsibility - The state or fact of being responsible, answerable, or accountable for something within one's power, control, or management.

Democracy- The word democracy comes from the Greek words "demos", meaning people, and "kratos" meaning power; so democracy can be thought of as "power of the people": a way of governing which depends on the will of the people. 

Equality- the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities. 

Equity- justice according to natural law or rights specifically : freedom from bias or favoritism 

Solidarity- unity or agreement of feeling or action, especially among individuals with a common interest; mutual support within a group. 

Honesty- adherence to the facts, fairness and straightforwardness of conduct 

Openness- having no enclosing or confining barrier 

Social Responsibility- Social responsibility is an ethical theory in which individuals are accountable for fulfilling their civic duty, and the actions of an individual must benefit the whole of society, Caring for Others.
