Why Become a member . . .

So we’ve all heard of elections where someone loses by one or two votes.  You can’t help but wonder – what if just a couple more people made the effort to get to the polls? We’ve learned that sometimes it’s just a few who determine history.

That’s where we are today at Co-op Market.  Since 2006, members and supporters of Co-Op Market have been working hard to open a member-owned grocery store in Fairbanks.  The result of this hard work is that we are close to the final phase of plans for the store.  In short, we are on the very cusp opening a cooperative food grocery in Fairbanks – a store full of local food, healthful food, and food that puts money back into our community.   But it can’t happen without you.

With your help, construction on the store could begin in July.  That’s right.   If we can grow our membership by 400 more paid or partial memberships, we can begin work on the store before summer is done.

Our apologies for sounding like a Publisher’s Clearinghouse ad – but this is the real thing.  If just a few more people who like good local food will become members, we can make it around that corner from dream to reality.

Now is your chance to decide how soon Co-Op Market can open. We don’t need everyone – but we do need the support of our neighbors who care about what we eat and where it comes from.

Yes, you can make quarterly payments toward your membership. Payments of $25 over two years or $50 over one year are happily accepted.
