TREASURER’S REPORT: Mary helped Sharon with quickbooks. FCCM sold 75 Chico bags to Mary at cost. There are 36 new founding members, 12 put in the full $200 investment. There has been an additional $3,578.42 since June l. Our new balance is $8,845.43. Rob pointed out that the Treasurer is not a bookkeeper, only oversees. We need to hire a bookkeeper. Jewels Nutter’s name came up. Sharon suggested to open a savings account at Wells Fargo with two signatures required to take money out. We should have a savings account with the bank we will approach for a loan.
COMMUNICATIONS/OUTREACH: The T-shirt design is almost done. Chico bags have arrived. We’re going to have our logo on it. Meadow will take over for Sue with logo and annual meeting.
OPERATIONS; Needed four people to make a committee. Jerry Wacker will attend and there will be a meeting in 2 weeks. Lela mentioned the new Obama health plan to favor small business. Do we want to support that? Discussion ensued about us not wanting to be political. Will talk about having espresso and deli bar.
PRODUCTS COMMITTEE: Sue Cave and Rand Petersen to help, now we have 4 people and will plan a meeting soon. The committee is combined with Local Producers/Vendor selection.
STORE DESIGN: Rob has AutoCad drawings and will start working on a design. Sue Cave on this committee.
BUSINESS PLAN: All areas are coming together to add to the business plan.
FINANCE COMMITTEE: Rich Seifert and Linda Redmond are added to the committee. They’re ready to set up a meeting. Hans is wanting to work with an organization in North Dakota that provides start-up capital. They understand co-ops. Also looking into local banks and credit unions. Member loans are not a priority. Rob will put together a proposal for financial controls. Hans will talk to local banks.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS EDUCATION COMMITTEE: Rob mentioned “Weed and Seed”, a youth involvement program from United Way. Should we partner up with that?
DELTA FARM TOUR: Helen reported. She went to Historic Mead Farm, saw cattle. They talked rodeo. Rob, Lela and Shaun joined the group to look at raindeer, then went to Clearwater Lodge to eat yak burgers, then to Northern Lights Diary. They import half their milk from Washington. They’re the only processor here. Saw cows and milk processing. Then to the hay farm where Bob Walker explained what a farmer’s life is like. Afterwards we saw buffalo and elk at a distance. Phil Kaspari from Cooperative Extension Service in Delta was the guide.
VOLUNTEER DAY was successful. The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner wrote a nice article and new people are becoming active.
